Was ist der International Kids Campus?
Der International Kids Campus ist eine mehrsprachige Ganztages-Vorschule für Kinder von 2 1/2 bis 6 Jahren.
Die Basis für den Bildungsplan stellt das international
anerkannte PYP-Programm der IBO (International
Baccalaureate Organisation) mit Sitz in Genf. Die
frühkindlichen Jahre sind für die Entwicklung von Kindern von enormer Bedeutung, da heranwachsende Kinder
elementare Fähigkeiten für ihr künftiges Leben erlernen.
Im IKC geben wir Kindern die Möglichkeit, sich in einer
kindgerechten und kreativen Umgebung zu entfalten.
Wir schaffen ein Umfeld, das die kindliche Entwicklung gleichermaßen fördert und fordert und ein von Kinder-Fragen und Kinder-Interessen gelenktes Lernen unterstützt. Grundlegende Sprach- und Mathematik-Kenntnisse werden durch eine Vielzahl von gezielt angewandten Spielen,
Liedern und interaktiven Aktivitäten gelehrt.
Der International Kids Campus legt dabei besonderen Wert auf die Vermittlung von sozialen und emotionalen Kompetenzen. Dies geschieht primär durch Gruppen-Arbeit, durch die Vorbild-Funktion der Pädagogen und die Anwendung des PYP Learner Profile. Unser Ziel besteht darin, verantwortungsvolle, aufmerksame und selbstbewusste Kinder zu erziehen, die ein Leben lang Freude am Lernen haben.
Was lernt mein Kind im
International Kids Campus?
Die Kinder im International Kids Campus haben Zugang zu einer Vielzahl von Lernmethoden. Im Mittelpunkt allen spielerischen Lernens steht die Neugier und der eigene Antrieb der Kinder sowie die Erkenntnis, dass Spielen gleich Lernen ist.
Der Vorteil der PYP Units of Inquiry besteht darin, dass die Kinder vor allem durch Erfahrungen lernen, die in engem
Zusammenhang zu ihrem eigenen Leben stehen. Kinder haben Spaß daran, die Welt um sich herum zu entdecken,
zu erforschen und zu hinterfragen. Mit zunehmendem Alter und fortschreitender Entwicklung erhalten die Kinder die Möglichkeit, sich spielerisch mehr und mehr auf die Anforderungen der ersten Grundschulklasse vorzubereiten. Dabei legen wir großen Wert auf soziale Interaktion in der Form, dass Kinder aller Altersgruppen freies Spiel, Kunst- und
Tanz-Projekte sowie andere Aktivitäten gemeinsam erleben.
PYP ist interdisziplinär. Wann immer möglich arbeiten
wir fächer- und themenübergreifend, um die Kinder zu
komplexem Denken zu animieren. Das heißt die Kinder
lernen spielerisch ein Thema von verschiedenen Seiten
und Blickwinkeln aus zu betrachten und Konzepte auf
andere Bereiche ihres täglichen Leben zu übertragen.
Was ist der PYP Learning Cycle?
Der PYP Learning Cycle ist eine wichtige Basis für alle unsere Projekte. Alle Kinder im International Kids Campus werden bewusst dazu ermuntert und ermutigt, Fragen zu stellen, um so aktiv in den eigenen Lernprozess involviert zu sein und fortwährend Erfolgserlebnisse zu erfahren.
Wir bauen auf der natürlichen Neugierde der Kinder auf, unterstützen sie dabei komplex zu denken, sich mitzuteilen und die Welt um sich herum zu hinterfragen. Mit der Einführung des PYP Learning Cycles können alle Kinder ihr eigenes Tun aktiv beeinflussen und beurteilen. Die Kinder erhalten so die Möglichkeit, in ihrer Welt etwas zu bewegen.
Wir glauben fest daran, dass soziale und emotionale Kompetenz entscheidend zur positiven Entwicklung eines jeden Kindes beitragen. Das PYP Learner Profile, das sich aus einer Reihe von Eigenschaften und Merkmalen zusammensetzt, die den global denkenden und agierenden Menschen der
Zukunft ausmachen, stellt die Basis für ein kindgerechtes und unterstützendes Lernumfeld. Das PYP Learner Profile steht im Kern der Planung sämtlicher Aktivitäten und
Dokumentationen. Durch diese stringente Ausrichtung wächst das Selbstbewusstsein, die Fähigkeit zu übergreifendem Denken und die individuelle Entwicklung der Kinder.
Die emotionale Entfaltung der Kinder wird permanent
durch eine positive Vorbild-Funktion der Pädagogen, durch ein sicheres und nährendes Umfeld sowie den stetigen Umgang mit anderen Kindern gefördert.
Wie läuft ein Tag im
International Kids Campus ab?
Kein IKC-Tag ist wie der andere! Natürlich gibt es eine grundlegende Struktur − wir gehen jedoch ganz flexibel auf die Bedürfnisse der Kinder ein und optimieren den Tagesablauf besonders dann, wenn wir an umfassenden Projekten arbeiten. Um den Eltern das größtmögliche Maß an Transparenz und Einblick in den IKC-Alltag ihrer Kinder zu bieten, informieren wir die Eltern regelmäßig schriftlich über aktuelle Projekte und bringen die Portfolios der Kinder stets mit den jüngsten Arbeiten auf den neuesten Stand.
Start in den Tag und freies Spiel
Für einen unbeschwerten Start in den Tag beginnen wir jeden IKC-Morgen mit freiem Spiel und Wunsch-Aktivitäten. So werden die sozialen Fähigkeiten der Kinder spielerisch gefördert.
Morgen-Runde
Im Anschluss findet unsere Morgen-Runde statt. Wir aktualisieren unseren Kalender sowie das Wetter-Chart und singen Lieder. Völlig spielerisch wird die Kommunikation sowie die Sprachentwicklung in beiden Sprachen, Deutsch und Englisch, gefördert. Wöchentlich haben die Kinder mit „Show & Tell“ die Möglichkeit, einen ihnen wichtigen
persönlichen Gegenstand in der Gruppe vorzustellen.
Sprachkunde
Kinder sind von Büchern und gedruckten Buchstaben besonders angetan. Die IKC-Umgebung ist reich an Printmaterialien, Büchern, Spielen, Liedern und Postern, so dass die Kinder ganz spielerisch mit Sprache und Buchstaben in vielfältigster Form in Berührung kommen. Sprachkundliche Grundkenntnisse, zum Beispiel das Lesen von Büchern von links nach rechts, werden von den Lehrern in Gruppen- und Einzel-(Vor-)Lesestunden vorgelebt.
Mathematische Konzepte
Die ersten mathematischen Grundkenntnisse werden durch interaktive altersgerechte Spiele und Aktivitäten vermittelt: Wir erforschen unsere Umwelt, um herauszufinden wo und warum Zahlen gebraucht werden, welche Formen wir wo
finden können und was sich hinter mathematischen Begriffen verbirgt. Immer ist die Reflektion über das Erfahrene
ein wichtiger Bestandteil des PYP Learning Cycle.
Erholung
Nach dem Mittagessen haben die Kinder die Möglichkeit, sich zu entspannen. Jüngere Kinder legen sich gerne hin oder hören leise Musik, während größere Kinder diese Zeit gerne nutzen, um in Büchern zu blättern oder schon die ein oder andere Schreibübung zu praktizieren.
PYP Units of Inquiry
Über das Jahr hinweg beschäftigen wir uns mit vier bis sechs PYP Units of Inquiry (Themen-bereiche), die wir mit Aktivitäten aus den Bereichen Sprachkunde, Rechnen, Kunst und Musik erkunden, erforschen, hinterfragen und verstehen lernen. Der Ablauf wird dabei primär von den Fragen und Gedanken der Kinder gelenkt − die Lehrer übernehmen eine unterstützende und moderierende Rolle.
Musische Fächer: Musik, Kunst & Theater
Musische Fächer sind für die Entwicklung eines Kindes ebenso wichtig wie die akademischen Bereiche. Kinder erfahren die Welt um sich herum mit all ihren Sinnen, durch Farben, Laute und Bewegung. Sobald Kinder ein gewisses Selbstverständnis im Umgang mit ihrem Körper haben, sind sie zunehmend in der Lage, ihr Lernen aktiv zu beeinflussen. Die Kinder erleben Rhythmen, Melodien, Farbwelten und Tonfolgen durch Aktivitäten wie singen, tanzen, sich bewegen, zuhören und Theater spielen. Im Rahmen der musischen
Aktivitäten lernen die Kinder vielfältige
Formen der Gestaltung und des
persönlichen Ausdrucks kennen, z.B.
durch Gestik, ihre Stimme, durch Pinsel, Stift und Schere und vieles mehr.

What is the International Kids Campus?
The International Kids Campus is a whole day bilingual preschool/kindergarten facility for 2 1/2 to six year old children. The basis for our curriculum comes from the IBO (International Baccalaureate Organisation) Primary Years Programme.
The early years are vital in a child’s overall development. Throughout each stage of development, children are required to acquire and consolidate many skills. Children at the IKC are given the opportunity to grow and learn in a safe environment that stimulates and encourages learning through children’s own questions and interests. Basic
numeracy and literacy concepts are taught through a
variety of activities, songs, games and play.
The International Kids Campus is actively involved with the emotional and social development of all children in their care through group work, specific modelling and the teaching of the Learner Profile. Our aim is to develop caring, respectful children who have a life long love of learning.
What will my child learn at the International Kids Campus?
All children at the International Kids Campus are exposed to specific learning concepts. Through the PYP Units of Inquiry, children learn through experiences that are relevant and contextual to their own lives. This enables them to explore, investigate and ask questions about the world around them. As the children become more developmentally capable, more expectations are taken from the 5-7 years curriculum bracket in order to cater individually to their needs and to prepare them for the first grade in a playful way. We place a high priority on social interaction and all age groups have free play, creative art and dance, and many other opportunities to interact with one another.
Where ever possible we use an inter-disciplinary approach to the curriculum, meaning that the children are exposed to many subjects through one unit of inquiry, rather than explore single subjects separately.
What is the inquiry cycle?
Children at the International Kids Campus are encouraged to ask questions in order to learn. From a young age they are introduced to the inquiry cycle. Through this cycle children are taught to ask questions and be actively involved with their own learning. We build off the natural wonder and curiosity of children and help them constructively think, share and investigate the world around them. By introducing the inquiry cycle at this age level, we are offering all learners the opportunity and the power to choose their actions, to act and to reflect on these actions in order to make a difference in and to the world.
Developing an International Person: PYP Learner Profile
We strongly believe in encouraging the children’s positive development both emotionally and socially. The International Kids Campus encourages a caring and supportive learning environment and uses the PYP Student Profile as a basis for this. The PYP Learner Profile is a list of attributes and dispositions that best describe an international person.
The Learner Profile drives the curriculum framework and is central to the planned activities and assessments for each Unit of Inquiry. By using this common language throughout the school, we are reinforcing their understanding and development of these traits.
Emotional development is continuously nurtured through the modelling of behaviour, a caring and supportive environment as well as continuous interaction with other children. On the left page you find some examples of what children learn through our continued emphasis on their social and emotional well-being.
What does a day at the IKC look like?
Our days have a basic structure. Please understand that we are very flexible according to the children’s emotional, social and academic needs and may change this timetable accordingly, particularly if we are
working on a specific topic that requires more time. In order to be transparent and clear about what we are learning in the International Kids Campus we send home regular curriculum news and update your children‘s portfolio with their work.
Arrival & free play
To assist an easy arrival in class and to encourage social interaction, we begin the morning by offering several free play choices and activities.
Morning Circle & Morning Talk
We start each day with our Morning Circle. We update the calendar and weather chart and sing songs. Morning Circle is an excellent opportunity to emphasis communication
and language development in both German and English. Once a week we have Show & Tell - where children can bring in a personal item, which she/he would like to show the group. The group ask questions and discusses what the children have brought.
Literacy
Children in this age group have a natural fascination with print. The environment of the classroom is rich in print materials, such as books, games, songs and posters. Children are introduced to the letters and words through songs and books. Basic literacy principals, such as how books are read from left to right, are modelled by the teachers during group reading and individual reading time.
Numeracy
Numeracy is full of hands on, relevant games, activities and investigations that invite children into the world of mathematics. We explore the environment to find where numbers are used and what shapes we can find. Numeracy takes place in both, small groups and whole class lessons. Reflection and discussion of concepts learnt is an important part of the Numeracy instruction.
Quiet Time
After lunch the children have the opportunity to relax. Smaller children may lie down and listen to music while the older children use this time to look at books and practice their early writing.
Unit of Inquiry
Throughout the year we have four to six PYP Units of Inquiry that will investigate specific themes and ideas. Within these Units of Inquiry we integrate activities in all areas, i.e. Literacy, numeracy, art, music and computer. The Units of Inquiry are driven by the questions and wonderings of the children and supported and directed by the teachers. Our Unit of Inquiry assessments and documentation is displayed in our portfolios.
Creative Expression: Music, Art, Drama
Creative Expression is an integral part of a child’s development as children explore the world around them through
color, sound, movement and their senses. As children become more confident with how they move and use their body, they become more able to participate in active learning. Children will experience rhythm, melody, harmony and tone colour through activities such as singing, dancing, moving, listening and performing. Within
creative art the children will experience different ways of expression i.e. by hand and feet, bushes,
sponges, cutting and gluing.
